Freelancers: You Don't Need I.T.

ice cream choicesAs a freelancer, most of the work I do happens on the computer. But just because I'm online all the time, have to store and manage files, communicate over email, send huge files, protect information, and more, doesn't mean I need an IT department to manage everything for me. In fact, the tools and resources
that are currently available make it so everything can be done at home, by me.

Communication

Let's start with Osmosis. You're a freelancer. You submit proposals all the time. You communicate with clients all the time. You find yourself asking the same questions and writing up the same documents over
and over. So why not automate it by using Osmosis? Osmosis lets you create proposal and questionnaire templates at home or on the go. You see a neat-looking new project but don't have time to write up a whole new proposal? No problem. Use your Osmosis template to fill in all of the key bits, and then just edit the parts necessary to fit to this new contract. Need to find out exactly what a new client needs, but don't have time to write up a list of 25 questions for them to answer? No problem. Ask them to fill out a pre-designed questionnaire. All you have to do is hit send.

Website Testing

Have more IT problems? Unbounce says it all right on their homepage: "Build, Publish & A/B Test Landing Pages Without I.T." Doing and learning everything about landing pages, code, and A/B testing is time consuming and difficult. So just ask Unbounce. Using this automated process, you can increase the conversion rates of your site and your clients' sites generate more leads, and do so in hardly any time at all. Unbounce helps you build mobile responsive landing pages, create campaigns, and more, all quickly, simply, and easily.

File Storage

File storage and access--one of the most important concerns of anyone that relies on the internet to get work done. Well, Dropbox is there for you, wherever you are. This simple tool allows you to store and access any type of file anytime from anywhere. You can use your computer, your phone, or your tablet to download and share files of nearly any size. There's no need to carry a flash drive with you everywhere, or take your computer to every meeting. With Dropbox, you can pull up the documents, pictures, or spreadsheets you need anywhere you are.

These are just three examples of tools that you can use to automate some of the processes you use every single day as a freelancer. The best part is that many of these tools are so easy to use, you will hardly have to think about it. Their intuitive systems allow you to do what you need step by step.

These resources can save you time, and as we all know, time is money. It can also save you frustration and stress, and give you brain space to focus on the more important things--like ice cream. And water polo. And fun.
